The Yangmingshan East–West Vertical Traverse kicks off on September 1! Meet us there for relaxation, tranquility and nature!
From west to east, each of Yangmingshan National Park's many peaks—Xiangtian, Miantian, Datun, Qixing and others—are beckoning at you from afar, eagerly awaiting your arrival. The Yangmingshan East–West Vertical Traverse began as an annual hiking event in July 2000 and was hosted for six consecutive years. Through word of mouth, participants shared their positive experiences and it soon turned into a popular and much anticipated event. Following a pause after 2005, the public has been avidly calling for its return. So it came as no surprise when, shortly after our July press release, news spread to every corner of the country—everyone is geared up and ready to go! By reintroducing this popular event, we hope the public will not only find pleasure in hiking through the numerous trails but also relax, slow down, and be able to truly be at one with nature. Let us promote the many wisdoms of life and learn to be steady and tranquil like the mountains; let us be tough like the grass yet gentle and graceful like the trees; let our knowledge, discovery, creativity, and action be inspired. All participants must acquire event handbooks, which they can purchase at the Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters Visitor Center or at any of the 4 visitor centers’ gift shops that all managed by Shishan Enterprise under contract to Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters. Participants can also purchase the handbook online through the website EventPal, then will be sent via carrier delivery (home delivery and ibon service fees charged separately). Each handbook costs NT$200; participants may begin their journey as soon as they obtain it. Hikers can stamp their handbooks at each of the 10 event locations to fill out the 10 Chinese characters in the brackets. Those included in the Yangmingshan East–West Vertical Traverse event are: Mt. Ding ("陽"), Mt. Shiti ("明"), Mt. Zhugao ("山"), Mt. Qixing East Peak ("東"), Mt. Qixing Main Peak ("西"), Mt. Datun Main Peak ("大"), Mt. Datun South Peak ("縱"), Mt. Datun West Peak ("走"), Mt. Miantian ("活"), and Mt. Xiangtian ("動"). Participants are advised to divide the event into several hikes throughout the year, with the following routes. 1. Mt. Ding trail hiking route: Fengguikou trailhead → Mt. Ding → Mt. Shiti → Mt. Zhugao → Qingtiangang → Lengshuikeng Visitor Center. 2. Mt. Qixing trail hiking route: Lengshuikeng Visitor Center → Mt. Qixing East Peak → Mt. Qixing Main Peak → Xiaoyoukeng Visitor Center. 3. Mt. Datun trail hiking route: Mt. Datun trailhead → Mt. Datun Main Peak → Mt. Datun South Peak → Mt. Datun West Peak → Miantianping → Erziping → Erziping trailhead. 4. Mt. Miantian trail hiking route: Erziping trailhead → Erziping → Mt. Miantian → Mt. Xiangtian → Qingtian Temple. After collecting all the stamps, participants can bring the handbook to the gift shop at Headquarters Visitor Center (opposite the Yangmingshan Second Parking Lot ) to get it validated, after which participants will receive a commemorative certificate (this process can only be completed at this location). The Shishang Enterprise also sponsors scepter quartz as souvenirs. The first 500 participants to collect all the stamps and obtain their commemorative certificates will be awarded with these commemorative gifts. There is beauty to be found everywhere inside the National Park. We sincerely invite all to come and experience the mountains, nature, and this joyful world full of life.
